Sometimes you need Coltrane, playing soprano saxophone, just to remind you what the human soul is capable of achieving.A touch of Eric Dolphy does no harm either.

walk in the hills
Jamie was off walking in the Pennines with his pal Simon and his step-grandad John, who’s 71 but still fit as a butcher’s dog. I drove up to drop off some supplies this afternoon, they were low on food and Jamie had a bad stomach, so I took up the three major food groups of bread, cheese and chocolate biscuits, plus drink and immodium tablets. Oh, and beans.
In the meantime they’d taken one look at Nenthead bank and decided they were too tired to do any more walking; my phone had failed again and it was extremely good fortune that I stopped at a village shop to use the public phone to call them, and they were sitting on a wall fifty yards away. We had a quick coffee in the shop and they piled in the car and I drove them home instead.
More pictures to follow (if you’re reading this JT, send me them asap).

The shop at Nenthead – coffee £1/large cup – friendly staff.

Got an email from Neil Osborne.
He’s a member of a short story group ‘Stories with Soul’ on the Upper East Side of Manhattan who meet every Wednesday and take it in turn to chose and read a short story or two.
He’s going to read one of mine.
Love it.
