I recently discovered the joys of the viola. Not to play, dear god no, I play enough instruments badly, and the viola isn’t something you can pick up just well enough to bang out a couple of tunes on at a party. But I do enjoy listening to the viola played well.
I’m not sure how long this dalliance will last, but the sound of it takes me to a good place.
My gran’s family were MacNeils, from Barra, which is a Hebridean Island from whose people, tradition has it, were supplied musicians to the courts of the Scottish kings. Harps, pipes, and fiddles.
Maybe it’s in the blood.
